About Us

S.O.S. Swim School was established in 1984 and soon gained its excellent reputation. The high standard of teaching has continued over the years and S.O.S. achieved a centre of excellence award.

SOS Swim School is affiliated to the STA (Swimming Teachers Assc) and we have been awarded their Star Swim School status along with their STAmark. These awards show SOS’s commitment to provide excellent teaching along with all the back office processes and policies you would expect.

We follow the STAs International Learn to Swim Program which offers many levels and awards and each term your child will achieve a badge in recognition of passing a level or distance.

Our swimming lessons cater for all ages and abilities, from babies to advanced swimmers.  The groups are small (max 5). Our approach is Friendly and Fun, after all children learn best when they are also having fun. The staff are friendly, energetic and enthusiastic. The children are constantly being assessed as children progress at their own pace and because of the flexibility of the swim school can move to the next level as soon as they are ready (not having to wait until the beginning of the next term to move up a level).

Our non swimmers and beginners (group 1) have water based teachers as well as an assistant as we have found children gain in confidence much quicker when their teacher is in the water with them and close to hand. Our group 2, weak swimmers, also have a water based assistant. Our group 3 and 4 swimmers also learn important personal survival and lifesaving skills during their lessons.

All of our teachers are STA qualified, insured and DBS checked. We also run regular training to make sure they work at the highest standards. Myself and several other teachers are also Swimming Coaches for various local clubs including Poole Swimming Club, Wareham Swimming Club and Swim Bournemouth.

A big thank you to Emma, she is the kindest most patient swim teacher I know. She taught a crying, stubborn 1 year old to jump in, roll over and float on her back!
